Scott MacAulay from Newlands Tennis Club in Glasgow won the men’s singles title at the West of Scotland Open Championship finals at Giffnock on Saturday. The 24-year-old Stirling University student won 4 rounds of matches without loss of a set, beating Jamie Martin [Milngavie] 6-1, 6-2 in the final. MacAulay was not so fortunate in the men’s doubles final with partner Harry Mouratidis [Whitecraigs] as the top seeds lost to unseeded pair Joe Gill [Blackhall] and Rhuaridh Fraser [Bridge of Allan] 6-4, 6-4. Milly Wood of Edinburgh’s Braid club retained her women’s singles title with a 6-3, 6-3 final victory over her younger sister Maisie in an entertaining final. The duo then teamed up to take the doubles title with a hard-fought win over Zoe Moffat [Whitecraigs] and Emily Gates of the host club 7-5, 6-4. The West of Scotland Open Championships is the last TS 1000 series event of the year with the final Tennis Scotland Open Tour Progressive Draw event still to come (incorporating the Scottish National Championships).
